Do You Have a Little Dapper In You......?

This week's PDX Inferno is all about… Dapper.

Dapper D, that is.

We've all heard the stories, some comical and some just downright horrible.  Stories about our more "butch" counterparts going into commercial stores and retail spaces looking to purchase clothing that reflects how they see themselves.  Clothing that makes them feel comfortable.  Clothing that gives them confidence, only to be told by some confused and ill-informed sales person that "the ladies department is downstairs."   Just last week a very good friend of mine was in search of a new suit. Not the frilly kind with a pinched waist and shoulder pads but a man's suit.  A man's suit, which she would then get tailored to fit her… And the frumpy (being nice here) salesman flat out refused to help her.

Thankfully, because our community is brimming over with bold and creative people, there are some out there answering this call, finding a way to fill this fashion void for those "Butch Fashionistas."

Founded by Vanna Pecoraro nearly a year ago, Dapper D's mission is to supply women of all shapes and sizes with masculine styled clothing that is designed and made to fit a woman's body.   This week see the beginning of the Kick-Starter campaign to help fund this lifelong dream of Pecoraro.

"Men and Women are shaped differently, so men's clothes don't normally fit a woman. There is a lack of understanding and poor customer service when women shop in the Men's Department of most clothing stores." Pecoraro explains, "You shouldn't have to conform to how society thinks a woman should dress."

With the help of her wife, Rasha (Dapper D Vice President), Pecoraro,  has spent the last year building the brand, meeting with their Creative Designer Kina Williams, and finding clothing that fills the needs of butchs' and their fem counterparts.

"Dapper D has searched the globe for unique, stylish clothing that will fit a woman's body." Pecoraro says, "I identify as a woman, but I love masculine clothing. I do not feel comfortable in what society thinks a woman should wear. It's very important to me to be myself, and to empower other women to do the same."

Take a quick look around the Dapper D Kick-Starter page and you will see clothing with broad appeal, which is precisely Pecoraro's vision. "I want to create a brand that is trusted by all of the Butch Fashionistas out there, for anyone who has an inner Dapper Tomboy inside. I would like to see Dapper D grow big enough to be able to give back to the community, and eventually open a brick and mortar store."

Pecoraro goes on to say, "We will accept any and everyone, and treat each Dapper D equally. We want to encourage everyone to Be Brave, to Be Authentic, to Be You!"

At the outset, Dapper D will start with some closet core basics: casual (but stylish) shirts, hoodies, bracelets and hats.  Shortly after they will introduce a new line of pants, belts & other accessories.  Currently, and for a short time only, you can be 'rewarded' with some of these items by being a part of the Kick-Starter campaign and helping fund Dapper D, which is an opportunity you don't want to miss out on for sure.
